Diabetic patients often develop atherosclerosis ( narrowing of the artery walls ) of the blood vessels in the feet and legs.
This results in poor peripheral circulation increasing the risk of serious infection.

Diabetic polyneuropathy ( nerve damage, loss of sensation ) can mean that cuts and abrasions on the feet go undetected and can lead to the development of diabetic ulcers.

Your diabetic foot check involves:

  • Checking for any changes in skin colour, inflammation or infection.
  • Checking for any ulcers, sores ,or pressure callouses
  • Taking the 3 main foot pulses to check blood flow, using the latest Huntleigh Ultrasound Doppler unit
  • Using a 10g monofilament and Vibratip on ten separate sites to check neuropathic responses.
  • Useful advice about footwear, and the “do’s and dont’s” of foot care for the  diabetic patient.
